Rubato
The execution of a rubato, that is, the free changing, accleration and hestitation of a tempo belongs to the most difficult hurdles for piano duos. How do we do it? Well, many things can be handled by sheer instinct and we take this risk. One can not quite explain it, since there is no one prescription for its success. Most important is confidence and trust in one another as well as experience which plays a big roll. In addition, duo-piano playing is very similiar to chamber music or more specifically to a string quartet of whom listen carefully to one another. As duo pianists we consider ourselves chamber musicians and when an ensemble plays as long as we have, one becomes tuned in to each other and sensitive to the emotions that music provokes. Each of us sense exactly the ebb and flow of the music.

Agreement
Of course it is natural that two people are not always in agreement on musical matters. Occasionally we have different feelings over the interpretation of the music. However such differences of opinion can be positive and usually very fruitful, since it leads to a re-examining of ideas. Important is to remain open and to arrive at the same musical conclusion. We suggest that this should all happen before one goes on stage!

Practise and Inspiration
Regular daily practise is very important to us. We work everyday together for about five hours. This is a matter of training. However music-making is not a nine to five job. It is not something that is turned off. Music goes on in one's mind even outside of the practise room. Inspiration for practising has no role. For us the great inspiration comes when we have to perform for our public.

Professionalism
Professionalism for us means offering a high standard of quality to our public under all conditions. Each time we perform, we try to give our very best and to serve the composer's intention and to communicate the music to the listener to the best of our ability.
